Hammer Bros. (or Hammer Brothers [1] , sometimes spelled " Hammer Bros ") are Koopas that stand upright and throw hammers at the player. They first appeared in the game Super Mario Bros. They have bigger shells than normal Koopa Troopas and wear helmets. Hammer Bros have several times been described as elite members of Bowser 's Koopa Troop . These enemies were originally designed by Kazuaki Morita. [2]

Besides the enemy Hammer Bros., it was originally intended that there be a Hammer Bro that hosted a Dice game, and was implemented as late as testing, although it was cut.

There is also a new power-up, the Hammer Suit . This power up gives Mario or Luigi the ability to throw hammers like a Hammer Bro, taking out stronger enemies like Boos, Dry Bones, and even Thwomps. They can also crouch and be invulnerable to fire attacks.

Mack (voiced by John Ratzenberger ) is a 1985 Mack Super-Liner bearing license plate "RUSTEZ3". A dedicated member of the Rust-eze Medicated Bumper Ointment Team, having the role of McQueen's transport, Mack pulls Lightning McQueen's trailer to his races. Lightning's one loyal teammate after his entire pit crew resigns in protest at the end of the season decider, he inadvertently sets up the predicament suffered by Lightning McQueen throughout the movie. The grill on him suggests a nose and his top cover (with the Rusteze logo) suggests a baseball-style cap.

Mack acts as Lightning's pit crew for the big race (since he has none) and worriedly asks if he's alright when he spins out, just before Doc and the others show up to help. During the closing credits, Mack views automotive versions of previous Pixar films (such as Toy Car Story and Monster Trucks, Inc. ) at a restored 1950s drive-in cinema . Commenting on other characters played by John Ratzenberger (including Hamm the piggy truck and the Abominable Snowplow), he eagerly applauds each of them until he realizes they're all played by the same actor, then demands to know "what kind of cut-rate production is this?!"
